The War With Fat

I would guess that the number one new years resolution is to lose weight. Unfortunately most of these attempts will eventually be unsuccessful. They now say that two-thirds of the United States is overweight. Does that sound disgusting to you? Well it does to me. Most of my younger life I was overweight. Weighing in at 220 pounds at the age of 15. Only being 5'4 at the time, that is quite large. What was the key to my weight loss? Eat less and move more. I drastically cut my calorie count and started an intense exercise routine. Eventually losing close to 100 pounds. The lessons I had learned throughout my weight loss struggle, I still practice to this day. Twelve years later I am in good shape with small weight fluctuations throughout the years. Seeing so many Americans fat makes me sick. The word fat today is considered politically incorrect, but that is what you are. I was fat! The medical system is becoming strapped due to the fat problem. Diabetes, heart problems, joint pain among many other things are costing us billions as a whole. To win this war against fat, we first have to take on the fast food industry. I would put McDonald's and Phillip Morris(cigarettes) in the same category. McDonald's is promoted to kids with good old Ronald and the playhouse, every kid begs their parents to take them to get a "happy meal". As illustrated in the recent movie "supersize me" eating McDonald's steadily for just a month can cause a drastic decline in health. What do you see on TV ads? Big juicy burgers, super burritos, and of course a bucket of chicken. I know its hard not to be tempted. These fast food establishments, excluding 'Subway', should be lambasted for the killers that they are. As a success story myself, I would advise anyone trying to lose weight for the new year not to start a diet per say. Change the way you think about food, research how food interacts with your body, and exercise. It is painful at times, especially at the beginning. I lost all of my weight by cutting my calories and working out to a Tony Little video. Younger people might not be familiar with him, but his exercise routines encompass the whole body, for a good cardio and muscle building workout. Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight. You will look better and feel better.
